Economic and Cultural Factors Behind the Rise of Instagram Thots

In previous incarnations of the draft for this post, I considered alternate title such as "Social media lets mediocre women find Simps", "Instagram allows mediocre women to pretend they are beautiful" etc. Now, I am not claiming that Thots are the biggest scourge on social media and there are far more annoying and scummy people on that social media platform or newer ones such as TikTok. Scammers trying to sell designer handbag knockoffs, cryptocoins or dubious supplements, idiots posting "inspirational quotes" and losers updating everyone on their latest vacations and restaurant outings are certainly more annoying than Instagram Thots. There are, however, are two major differences between these self-anointed "models" and other scammers peddling junk.

Firstly, Thots usually have an organic following unlike the later groups. Secondly, it is not immediately obvious what product or services these women are selling. The many responses to their posts also highlight some interesting differences between how men in the Anglosphere react to women when compared their counterparts in other parts of world. A few years ago, and on another blog, I remember writing a post about how men in Anglosphere post too many complimentary and otherwise pathetic comments to every non-obese chick in a bikini on Instagram. This difference becomes especially obvious when you start comparing social media accounts of non-ugly chicks in USA or UK with their equivalents in Brazil or Italy.

So.. what is going on? What makes men in the Anglosphere much more likely to be Simps than their counterparts in countries such as Brazil, Italy or even France and Germany. One simple explanation might be that countries and cultures with legalized prostitution have far fewer Simps than those which do not have such outlets. But 4 out of 5 countries in Anglosphere (Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand) have tolerated or legalized prostitution unlike USA.. and yet, men from these countries are just a little behind those from USA when it comes to posting cringe worthy comments to Instagram Thots. As you will see soon, there is a good explanation for their behavior.

At this point, some of you might think that my much greater familiarity with English could explain preferentially noticing cringeworthy comments made by men from those countries. As it turns out, I did consider that issue and therefore made extensive use of online translating tools to read the comments to posts by girls from Brazil, Spain, Italy, France, Germany etc. In my experience, even the most charitable interpretation of comments left by men from Anglosphere demonstrate much more pedestalling and thirsty behavior than those from other European or Latin countries. And then I started to something else. A lot of Instagram Thots from Anglosphere or with predominantly followers from those countries seem to enjoy lifestyles that were difficult to reconcile with their alleged real-life occupations and income.

It was hard to ignore that many Instagram Thots (even minor ones) had no problems obtaining tons of new sexy outfits, going on expensive vacations, living in very nice apartments and houses.. not to mention finding somebody willing to professionally photograph them all the time. Some of you might say that this is due to quality digital cameras becoming inexpensive, nice clothes becoming cheaper or them getting some good deals for travel and posh hotels. Perhaps.. maybe they get good deals on clothes, travel etc because they are seen as social media influences. But here is the problem with that line of reasoning- specifically, this can explain why the top 5% or maybe 10% of these Thots get some of the expensive stuff and services they flaunt. But it is much harder to explain how chicks with less than 2-5k followers can get such them.

To make matters more interesting.. the conspicuous consumption patterns for Thots with less than 2k followers are very similar to those with more than 100k. In other words, something else is at work. Some might think that they are working as escorts on the side or they have a sugar daddy. Well.. based on what I know about escorts, most of them do not want to be recognized as such in real life. The sugar daddy angle is certainly possible. But, once again, I think something else is at work. Many years ago, I knew more than one chick who used their looks and sweet talking to make Simps repeatedly pay for stuff such as fancy dinners, vacations, clothes etc without giving them any sexual favors in return.

At that time, I did find it strange that so many (usually white) men in Anglosphere countries were willing to repeatedly give small to medium sized gifts etc to girls who never gave them sex in return. So here is, finally, my theory about how even mediocre Thots on Instagram often live lifestyles far beyond their ability to earn that kind of money. Long story short, I have a very strong feeling and decent amount of proof that these mediocrities get far more gifts (solicited and unsolicited) from sad and pathetic beta (usually white men) than most readers want to believe. Social media platforms simply make this parasitic behavior much easier and more lucrative than in previous eras because it is far easier to get 2-5k followers on Instagram than it is to meet and flirt with the same number of people in real life.

As to why it is far more common for such Simps to be white men.. the short answer is that most of them are thoroughly beta. The really funny and tragic part is that the vast majority of those spending money on these parasites get nothing in return- which is worse than those who pay for the slightly less pathetic OnlyFans type stuff. So what are your theories to explain how even mediocre Thots who constantly pose in thong bikinis on Instagram keep living the high life, or at least a much better one than they otherwise could afford, even if they have a low follower count? To be clear, I am not denying that some of them also have OnlyFans, fuck for money or have sugar daddies. It is just that a significant part of their income stream does not involve anything more than just posing in scanty swimsuits and sexy underwear.
