Electoral Democracy in the West has a Dim and Rapidly Declining Future
As regular readers know, especially by now, I often take highly unpopular but rational positions on a number of topics. However many of my past predictions on a range of topics (on my previous blog), especially the unlikely ones, have been validated by the subsequent course of events. For example, I consistently predicted that Trump would win in 2016 and the vote margin in the electoral college would be close and result in the losing candidate (Hillary) raising questions about integrity of election. Similarly, I correctly called that the vote margin in electoral college for 2020 presidential election would be even closer than 2016 and that the losing candidate would almost certainly raise the same questions about electoral process as Democrats raised four years ago.
I have also made many other correct predictions such as how smartphones and social media would lead to widespread public unrest about how police shootings or killings of unarmed black men. FYI- I made that prediction in 2012. But less us move on from all my past accurate, if disturbing, predictions to a general topic which I often revisit in my posts. It concerns the near- and medium- term future of the West, specifically the serious risk of large scale socio-economic problems and implosion resulting in all sorts of ‘unforeseen consequences’. While I have written many posts on various facets of this problem in the past (on my previous blog), this particular post was inspired by two posts which I recently came across on an online mag. The first one is about how the dominance of SJW-ism in the upper echelons of organized labor is leading to their rapid irrelevance and the second is about how ‘Lifestyle leftism’ is rapidly destroying public support for leftist political parties in the West.
With that out of the way, let us go into my prediction about the dim and dismal future of electoral democracy in the West. To be clear, I am not the first person to express serious doubts about the viability of electoral democracy as a system of governance. Most ancient Greek boy-fucking sophists.. aka “great” philosophers.. to 19th century conservative pederast “intellectuals” also expressed doubts about democracy as a system of governance- albeit for very different reasons. But let us not waste over time going through the bullshit and lies of intellectually dishonest people from previous eras. Instead, let us approach this question from a different angle by asking a simple question. Why have the overwhelming people in Western countries, but specifically during the past 70 years, overwhelming supported electoral democracy?
While many people would like to believe that such strong support is due to education or some unspecified “enlightenment”, the truth is far more plain. The high levels of public support for democracy in western countries during past century, but especially the past 70 years, has everything to do with it close association to good and responsive governance which resulted in a massive improvement in living standards and quality of life for the average resident of those countries. This is especially true for the period after WW2, which saw 3-4 decades of incredible growth and large increases in living standards. To put it another way, the strong support of people for democracy in the West is almost completely linked to material and very obvious improvements in their quality of life. That is also why the Chinese Communist Party, in spite of it numerous “issues”, still has very high rates of public approval in China.
And this brings us to why electoral democracy had a dim and rapidly declining future in Western countries. Have you noticed how the quality of life started stagnating in the West beginning sometime in the 1970s or 1980s? Sure.. the start of this stagnation was slow and moreover some countries did resist it until the early 1990s. Having said that- it is now widespread, obvious and rapidly accelerating. To make matters worse, this occurred at the same time that political parties in West started to be captured by the parasitic PMCs. Don’t believe me? Have a look at the career trajectory of political leaders and elected officials from 50 or even 40 years ago and compare them to their equivalents today. You will immediately notice that most elected officials from that era had significant job experience outside politics and many in the immediate post-WW2 period often had remarkably humble beginnings.
Contrast that to the today where almost every politician went to the same small set of schools and universities, volunteered at the same charities, interned at the same jobs, got the same type of jobs after university in some billionaire funded foundation and almost certainly dated or fucked a few people in the same or other political parties. But why is having an incestuous political elite so bad for the continued public belief in electoral democracy? Well.. it comes down to their lack of actual competence. They are only good at self-promotion, palace intrigue, kissing ass and try to act competent. They lack the intellectual ability to solve any real problems affecting average people such as chronic unemployment, infrastructure decay, commodity shortages, housing costs, imploding healthcare, widespread inflation, social atomization etc. Instead they seem to focus on solving non-problems such as “global warming”, “racial inequity”, levels of nicotine in cigarettes, plastic drinking straws etc.
But what has changed since such people and policies starting becoming commonplace in the 1990s? Well.. a few things. Firstly, the damage caused by these parasites during the first decade, or so, of their dominance in politics was not sufficient to upset the lives of their voters to a significant extent. The 1990s and early-2000s are still seen as a good time to be around. Conditions and public mood started going visibly negative after 2005, culminating in the first instance of widespread public disenchantment with the status quo in aftermath of GFC of 2008-2009. It was now very obvious to majority of people living in West that their “elected” parasite class had no interest in solving real problems affecting average people. This is why a lot of alternate political parties and personalities started gaining ground after 2012- which explains the rise of AfD and National Front in Europe or Brexit and Trump in the Anglosphere.
The current political class however learned no real lessons from these “unexpected” changes and have not altered their behavior accordingly- because, to be blunt, they lack the intellectual capability to do so. Instead they have simply doubled and tripled down on their unpopular attempts to solve non-problems and make things even worse for the average person. This is why they want to ban internal combustion engined automobiles, ration electricity and food, try to ban meat consumption, ban plastic drinking straws, make people wear useful face masks and take useless vaccines, start dangerous conflicts all over the world, while pretending to be great humanists by supporting delusional trans people and trying to brainwash little kids at school to confuse them about their sexuality. It does not help that everybody with more than half-a-brain can see they are raging hypocrites.
To summarize, it is now very obvious to the majority of people in Western countries that electoral democracy of the sort which has existed since the end of WW2 is not able to solve their pressing problems. Indeed, the system as it exists is making them worse in addition to creating new problems. They have also seen that simply electing a different political party does not affect this death spiral. It does not take a genius to figure out that ambitious people with authoritarian tendencies can see this problem and will take advantage of it. As I said near the beginning of this post, public support for democracy in West is intimately linked to its association with an increase in their living standards in the first 3-4 decades after WW2. If somebody can credibly promise and partially deliver on pressing issues facing average people in the West, they will support him- even if it means abandoning the current farce of electoral democracy.
