Why are Western Fanboys of Ukraine Delusional?
Since the start of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war in late February of this year, I have noticed something which is simultaneously interesting and comical. As noted in the title of this post, you also might have noticed that western fanboys of Ukraine are.. a bit detached from reality, to put it mildly. To be clear, there is a spectrum of uncritical fanboys of Ukraine- specifically about its chance of victory in ongoing war. Some are paid shills and sockpuppets who will dutifully repeat whatever their paymasters order them to regurgitate that day or week. Others are western military “experts” who have never fought a war against a peer adversary in addition to repeatedly losing against peasants with not much more than AK-47s and RPG-7s. However, most western fanboys of Ukraine are neither shills nor “experts”.
So what motivates these morons to constantly and enthusiastically pretend that Ukraine has a snowball's chance in hell of prevailing against Russia? Some might blame propaganda by western governments and institutions, however as I wrote in a couple of previous posts (link 1, link 2), propaganda works by validating what people already believe. This is why, for example, majority of people in most countries outside the West see this conflict very differently from those inside it. But why do most people in the West believe what they do? Well.. the very short answer to this question is that many people in the West no longer inhabit the world of physical reality. The longer version, which is discussed in remainder of this post, is that current western fanboy-ism towards Ukraine is part of a much larger behavior pattern, which has been growing at an alarming and rapidly increasing rate during the past two decades.
On a previous blog, I wrote many posts about how the increasing tendency of people in western countries to believe in ludicrous stuff, the collapse of competence among processionals and institutions, widespread technological stagnation and rise of secular religions such as environmentalism, feminisms, LGBTQ-ism etc are symptoms of the same underlying condition. FYI- I will republish polished and updated versions of those posts on this Substack in the next couple of months. But let us get back to the topic of this post- why are unpaid western fanboys of Ukraine so delusional about the chances of that country prevailing against Russia? To understand what I am going to say next, we will have to first talk about the concept of wishful thinking- specifically how it came to replace rational and objective analysis in the West.
Every person who is not retarded has an active imagination and rich fantasy life. All of us can imagine what it would be to be very rich, attractive, famous, talented etc. I bet that a decent minority of people reading this blog could write pretty good novels and screen scripts, if they had the opportunity and feedback. However most of us know the difference between fantasy and reality. I would like to have millions and billions in my bank accounts, but have to content with seeing a significantly smaller but still healthy sum each time I check the balances. I would also like to have a 9-inch dick, but 6-inch something is the reality. Again.. that is quite acceptable. My point is that, most people can have a rich imagination or fantasy life without losing the ability to perceive physical reality and act accordingly.
You might have noticed that I used the term ‘most people’ instead of ‘everyone’ in the previous sentence. And this brings us to why so many people in the West seem to be live in a make believe world. To be clear, this was not always the case and until quite recently (the 1990s) high levels of magical thinking were largely restricted to people involved in organized regions, freaky guru cults, pyramid schemes and among those who aspired to become famous actors and musicians. Then something in the broader culture started to change in the late 1990s. While there is no one main reason for this shift- a number of factors from the rise of neoliberalism and financialism after 1991, hollowing out of industrial capacity of West, prolonged technological stagnation, rise of managerialism, social atomization speeded up by the internet etc created a world (at least in the West) where make believe prevailed- at least for some time.
To be fair this process had started in this country as early as the 1970s, but it is clear that it greatly sped up after 1991. Let me illustrate the extent of this loss of connection to reality with a few easy examples. Have you ever wondered why the fees for attending university in this country (and many others in anglosphere) keep going up without an increase in quality of education? Did those who got their degrees in 1980, 1990 or even 2000 receive a significantly inferior education than today because they paid much less? If not, then what are the students in university today paying for? If online dating is so revolutionary why are young people today having significantly less sex than before and why were incels far less common during the 1980s. If the costs of healthcare has almost doubled since 2000, why is average life-expectancy up by less than a year in 2022. How did an average house in many parts of this country reach a million dollars?
I could give you many more examples, but the central message is clear: the system or status quo as it exists in the West has little to no connection with physical reality. And there is a reason for it- the ability to actually produce things and real services has been replaced with the production of things and services which are grossly overpriced and, to put it bluntly, almost useless. If every game developer in this country stopped working tomorrow, the world would go on just fine. But even the temporary shutdown of a single large factory making bulk chemicals in China or India will cause a very nasty and expensive series of supply chain problems for essential products. GDP as measured in dollars, pounds or euros is meaningless and financial fiction. This is why a country with a GDP allegedly smaller than Texas (Russia) can fuck up things in the real world in ways that surprise western morons.
But how is any of this related to why western fanboys of Ukraine being delusional? Well.. let me put it this way. Due to a number of prior conditions and system inertia, it was possible for people living in the West to partially ignore hard physical reality for a couple of decades. Personal success in the West became a function of how well one could bluff, lie, cheat and misrepresent reality. That is why, for example, Germany spent over 500 billion euros on “green” energy projects which provide almost zero energy during times and seasons of maximal demand. This is also why politicians in West think they can ban internal combustion-engined automobiles in their countries by 2030 without dire consequences or why they believe that a fertility rate of less than 2 is sustainable. That is also why people are so eager to believe any fashionable sounding bullshit, such as man-made climate change, trans women are women, cloth masks can stop airborne viruses and more crazy stuff.
But it gets crazier, if you can believe it. See.. a lot of people in the West seem to believe that thinking affects material reality. They actually believe that loud pompous words and propaganda will make regimes in countries such as China and Russia keel over. They actually believe that economic sanctions can change governments, when the data clearly shows otherwise. They believe they are an indispensable dynamic part of the global community when they are, in reality, a rapidly shrinking and aging part which will soon lose whatever power it still possess. They believe that their beliefs about the world materially alters it according to their will. It does not take a genius to figure out that a lot of western fanboys of Ukraine actually imagine that their dumb sarcasm and repetition of nonsense and ridiculous lies will have a real effect on the physical reality of Russia being a much larger and far more powerful country. It also allows them to virtue signal at their equally deranged peers.
Some of you might think that this explanation is ludicrous and that people in West are far more objective and rational. Are you so sure.. just have a look at how many people including credentialed “experts” believed that masks can stop an airborne virus or injected vaccines can prevent infection by a virus that predominantly replicates in the respiratory mucosa. The sad reality is that people who live in societies without much connection to physical reality quickly realize that you have to a good bullshitter or liar to be successful, while internalizing the message that they can influence the physical world through their thoughts. There is a reason why MBA and other management courses are so popular in this country, why everybody and their dog wants a degree from some prestigious university and why people think that average houses costing a million dollars is normal. This is also why self-help book and other scams are so popular in the West. Yes, a lot of people in the West actually believe that concepts such as the ‘Laws of Attraction’ and books like ‘The Secret’ are based in fact.
To summarize, the reason why western fanboys of Ukraine are so delusional comes down to their mindset and worldview. These morons believe that physical reality is inconsequential and can be changed at will by thinking the “right thoughts”. If you have a better explanation, feel free to write about it in the comments.
