One of the interesting effects of going through social media platforms with millions of regular users is that you start noticing that many things are far more common than someone in a previous era might have expected. These range from certain hobbies (astronomy, vintage computers etc) and areas of interest (building methods in roman empire, geology) to specific sexual fetishes and proclivities. Whether this is due to the newfound ability to find and connect with other people or just an increase in general interest due to exposure is irrelevant. What matters is that we see much more of the world around us in ways which were previously not possible and this has interesting consequences. For example, after watching a lot of amateur video footage of tourist attractions in Europe - from beaches to entertainment districts- it becomes very obvious that people in most European countries, even the poorer ones, are far less prone to obesity than those in this country. This is especially so for women, but even older men in those countries are much less likely to be obese than here.
With that in mind, let us talk about another pattern I noticed across multiple social media platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok etc). The number of highly attractive women (solid 8s and above) is far higher than most people, but especially men, want to believe. At this point, some of you might say- “aren‘t there a lot of pretty waitresses in LA and NY, who are working those jobs while trying to break into showbusiness and modeling”. Yes, and that is well known. But what I am talking about is a bit different. See.. I realized, some years ago, that women who are solid 8s and above are common in all parts of this country and rest of world. And this is especially obvious when you look at the sheer amount of amateur porn and now almost universal nude selfies posted online. Here is an experiment- think of the most attractive female celebrity you know and just spend an hour or so looking at the legions of hot chicks posting their almost nude or skimpily dressed photos on Instagram or any site amateur nude selfies.
Note that the women in this clip are wearing minimal makeup and are not especially famous. You can find similar clips of even more anonymous athletes at university level.
I can guarantee you that within an hour you will come across half a dozen women who are as, or more, attractive than your dream female celebrity. Even better, you will very likely come across doppelgangers who are so close in appearance to that celebrity that you could repost a slightly tweaked photo of them as that celebrity and most people would not know the difference. With a little patience and some tricks to make image search work for you, it is even possible to find doppelgangers for obscure attractive actress or models who haven’t worked in over thirty years. The relatively low cost and ubiquity of makeup makes this even easier for women with a passing resemblance to those celebrities to pass as their doppelgangers. And it is not just looks.. many women who post on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok etc have a camera presence which is at least equal, if not better, than many celebrities who are paid millions more. My point is that the available pool of looks and talent for what was marketed as famous and attractive women is far larger and deeper than most people want to believe.
And you will find them in all sorts of unlikely places. Just take a look at Instagram profiles of women playing university sports (esp track and field, water sports, tennis etc). You will come across more 8s and 9s during an hour-long dive there than entire portfolio of many fashion photographers. And ya.. most of this explosion is due to the proliferation of smartphones with decent cameras. But it is telling that many women without high-end professional makeup artists and photographers often output photos and videos which rival those produced by those supposed “professionals”. FYI- I am aware that there is now a large number of semi-professional photographers and make-up artists who cater to this clientele- but my point still stands. The very fact that semi-pros, who receive much less financial compensation, than “acclaimed” professionals produce content which is as good as pros exposes how hollow the previous status quo of gatekeepers and professionals in this area really was. It was always a scam.
What do you think? Comments?
The market for professional photography practitioners is by definition seasonal and niche. The arrival of professional DSLR cameras in the $1,500 range has thoroughly democratized the photography business, and the photographer with a studio has morphed into a roving nomad with a decent MacBook at home. The only real distinction is the ability to kick out work day in day out, and that requires scale (read: employees) and capital. If volume isn’t a problem, well then the apple iPhone 13 and up are good enough (with attachments and lighting systems).
Beauty in the US tends to head to “the big city” at high school graduation, leaving a vast sea of 5/10’s and lessers. I saw more 8/10s and up in Las Vegas than Chicago.
Beauty may be seen more in Europe, but more unapproachable.
