As regular readers know, I have written more than a few posts about the progressive loss of competence displayed by western “intellectuals “ and “experts” within the past two decades. This phenomenon has manifested itself in almost every western country, major institution and profession- leading to effects ranging from the inability to build standard infrastructure on time and within original budget, decline or stagnation in quality of products and services to consistently pushing dumb policies and ideologies etc. While the pattern of this progressive loss of competence differs from one country to another, the overall effects are remarkably similar. And this brings me another area where this loss of competence is obvious- the rapidly declining quality of elected officials and other members of the political apparatus in West.
While I had recently written a post on that general area, it was largely focused on the rise of current generation of western politicians from the PMC class and downstream effects of such a mindset on their worldview. This one will discuss effects of having such parasites in leadership roles when the external situation starts going south. As you might remember, I also wrote about how western “experts” are willingly deluding themselves about the ongoing war in Ukraine. In it, I pointed out that the only way to gain entry into most western institutions now involves the mindless and enthusiastic support of whichever ideology, scam or cause is currently fashionable. It is therefore no surprise that the system selects for greedy and backstabbing D-rate actors who constantly mouth empty platitudes about fashionable causes and ideologies. Just look at people from Kamala Harris, Emmanuel Macron, Jacinda Ardern etc.
However this degenerative disease is not restricted to the current head of states in those countries. Instead, it permeates and saturates the body politic of every single western countries and their major political parties. One of the best example of this behavior is how western politicians and political parties of all stripes are reacting to the ongoing Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine. Some of you might have noticed that they are acting in some very peculiar ways, to put it mildly. For starters, the majority are acting as if Ukraine is still going to win this war- when it is obvious to anybody who is not retarded that Russia is wiping the floor with them, despite the massive amounts of western economic and military aid to Ukraine. Under normal conditions, such a profound setback would have caused the political establishment in Western countries to carefully and systematically reevaluate the feasibility of their goals and the many assumptions underlying it.
This has, however, not occurred. Instead every evidence of failure, from inability to cause economic collapse in Russia to the heavy and asymmetric attrition of Ukrainian troops has simply made the political elites of western countries, especially European ones, keep doubling down on their failed approach. That is how we end up with seven or eight rounds of economic sanctions, when it is obvious that previous six or seven ones not only failed to harm Russia to any worthwhile extent, but actually hurt West European economies to levels not seen for at least the past four decades. And yet these morons cannot stop keep thinking of new ways to worsen the situation, every single day. It is, as if, these short-bus riding kids have some gift for coming up with increasingly ridiculous and self-damaging ideas.
You might, for example, have heard German political “leaders” repeatedly stating that they will not relax their “sanctions” on Russia until it retreats to the 1991 boundaries with Ukraine. At the same time, these dumfucks have no real plan about how average Germans will heat their homes during the coming winter or how their factories will have enough energy to keep running during that season. One of these ridiculous ideas involves purchasing excess LNG supplies which do not exist, transported using LNG carriers which haven’t been built and distributed via a pipeline network which hasn’t been constructed. Another involves transporting hydrogen (made using natural gas) from Canada using a technology which has never been scaled up to that level and transported by cryogenic carriers which do not exist. Yet another involves making some absurd claims about the capacity of existing wind and solar power generating facilities during winter. Then there is always the old standby of using existing coal plants and maybe not shutting down their remaining nuclear reactors.
The point I am trying to make is that none of their hairbrained ideas, and there are more, have any chance of covering the hole left by cessation or even reduction of natural gas supplies from Russia. Even under the most optimistic circumstances, it would take 5-10 years to build the distribution infrastructure and transport facilities necessary to replace Russian natural gas, and all of this assumes they can get enough suppliers from abroad. Did I mention how west European countries no longer have the ability to build large infrastructure projects on time, on budget or without serious screwups? How will they keep their electricity grid running and reliable until then? What about all their industries who built their competitive advantage around cheap and plentiful Russian natural gas? Magic pixie dust? But note that German politicians of almost ever stripe are pretending that this self-inflicted clusterfuck won’t cause serious socio-economic problems and a ton of downstream effects.
But wait.. if you though German politicians are disconnected from reality, you haven’t seen nothing yet. The elected “leaders” of small and insignificant countries such as Estonia, Latvia, Denmark and Finland are trying to push even dumber ideas such as blocking Russian road and rail access to its enclave in Kaliningrad and denying visitor visas to Russians. Did I mention that these countries are small pipsqueaks- especially on the strategic level? Would you really miss anything if Estonia, Latvia or Denmark vanished from the face of this planet tomorrow? Even Finland is, to put it bluntly, an insignificant European country with no serious impact on the global economy. What makes their behavior even dumber than Germans is that at least two of the four have a border with Russia and a large ethnic Russian minority. I am sure that their myopic dumbfuckery will have no unforeseen consequences in the future (sarcasm intended).
Then there are countries such as Poland, best known as the country of origin for many immigrant handymen in UK. The morons running that country have actually decided to go without Russian natural gas even though the pipeline project they are banking on is at least a year from completion and can supply only half their requirements. But I am sure that some combination of coal-powered plants and firewood will magically bridge the gap. There is, of course, the looming problem of feeding and housing even more Ukrainian refugees in the next few months, but I am sure that long bombastic speeches and their hatred of Russians will magically transform into extra money, food and housing stock. Let us also not forget other idiots such as Italy which is trying to purchase LNG and natural gas which does not exist, France which has lost the ability to build reliable nuclear reactors in past two decades or landbound countries such as Czech republic and Slovakia who are clicking their shoes together in the hope that some neighboring country with a coastline will magically build infrastructure to distribute LNG supplies which does not yet exist and transported by carrier ships which haven’t been built. Might write another post on this same topic, depending on reception and replies.
What do you think? Comments?
Why don’t you talk about electric cars and overstrained power grids. Elon is a hero of yours, eh?
